Dr. Bede Broome

After pursuing training in both medicine and neuroscience, Bede joined McKinsey to help drive change across the healthcare sector. He helps healthcare-related organizations—mainly providers and service companies—provide better patient care while improving operations.

Taking a broad view of the factors that influence performance, he helps healthcare leaders tackle a range of complex challenges, including improving clinical operations, restructuring struggling hospitals, optimizing healthcare IT solutions, and integrating new cutting-edge technology. His firsthand knowledge of the healthcare system helps him address many factors that are critical to the long-term success of transformation efforts; namely, organizational culture and the complex workflows that exist in healthcare today.

Examples of his recent client work include designing and leading numerous comprehensive operational transformation programs to address profitability at multiple regional and national health systems; evaluating prospective acquisitions and turning around the performance of portfolios for private equity clients; and working with leading health systems to integrate cutting-edge technologies that have transformed clinical and nonclinical operations.

Bede is a frequent speaker at industry and company events on healthcare-related turnarounds and restructurings, the future of clinical operations, the healthcare supply chain, and the integration of technology into the evolving healthcare landscape.

Bede received his MD from University of California at Los Angeles, PhD in neuroscience from California Institute of Technology, and AB in chemistry from Princeton University.
