Karl M. Kellner

Senior Partner

Karl Kellner, a director in McKinsey’s New York office, has more than 20 years of experience consulting with not-for-profit and for-profit health plans, PBMs, and provider organizations on strategy development and performance improvement. Karl has published articles and thought pieces on corporate strategy development for healthcare companies, consumer-directed healthcare, pharmacy and ancillary cost management, new models of payor–provider partnership, and provider payment reform. His clients include CEOs, directors, and C-suite executives at major health services organizations. His client experience covers a broad range, from growth strategy and performance improvement to capability building and cost management. His recent engagements include corporate and growth strategies for health plans, health reform scenario planning for health services organizations, cost reduction for provider organizations, performance improvement for health plans and PBMs, future provider payment strategies for payors and provider organizations, and healthcare delivery transformation for payors and providers. He also led an eight-year partnership with the Clinton Foundation to create economic opportunity and assist small businesses in Harlem and beyond.

Karl holds an MBA from the Wharton School and a BA degree, magna cum laude, from Oberlin College. He serves on the board of the New York Foundation for the Arts.
